We are often asked if the products we use to polish stainless steel sheet and plate are free from animal derived ingredients. The majority of our finishes can be certified as ADI free with the exception being bright or mirror polishing. However this can be done with enough notice to ensure that the relevant compounds could be purchased and polishing mops changed to ensure no cross contamination.
We will also provide statements from our suppliers of which examples are below.
Grained & Circle Finishes
With regard to abrasive polishing of stainless steel, aluminium and other non-ferrous materials the abrasives that we use do not contain, nor are manufactured with, any animal products or materials of animal origin. We have sourced written confirmation from our suppliers to this end and are happy to certify this along with our supplier’s statements.
Protective Coating
The protective coating applied after polishing by Polifilm are based on polyethylene which is coated with natural rubber based adhesives or acrylic based adhesives.
Therefore, they can confirm that the substances used in the manufacture of POLIFILM protective films are mainly of petrochemical origin (e.g. polyethylene, polyacrylics) or of vegetable origin (e.g. natural rubber, tree resins).
• No materials used have their origin from cattle, sheep, or goat.
• These materials of animal origin are NOT used in the production.
Bright / Mirror Polishing
For Bright and Mirror Polishing the polishing compounds do contain animal fats (bovine free) however should an animal-fat-free liquid compound be required to produce your finish then we can ensure this happens and is certified however advance request would need to be given.
